History will be made in Longford this weekend as the county hosts its first Poc Fada competition.
Newcastle House, Ballymahon will host the long-hitting contest, starting at 2pm on Sunday, when entrants will be asked to navigate a course across the surrounding parkland.
The Bank Holiday weekend slot for the contest is poignant as the annual Poc Fada Na hEireann competition - which takes place in the Cooley Mountains - is synonymous with August Bank Holiday weekend.
Admission to take part is free and clubs can have as many participants as they wish - but each contestant is asked to also bring a spotter and a marker.
There will be three separate competitions - senior, Under 16 and Over 40 - and registrations will be recorded on the day between 1 and 1:30.
The winners will go on to represent Longford in the Leinster Poc Fada finals
