The Mayo GAA Senior Mens Poc Fada for 2013 will be held this Friday 21st June in Ballinrobe Race Course commencing at 7.00pm. Following the launch of the Connacht GAA Poc Fada at Sundays Connacht hurling and football ties at McHale Park, it was announced that the picturesque South Mayo Racecourse would host the Mayo event or the first time. Already interest in the novel event is gaining momentum with former Mayo champion Donall O'Brien (Ballyhaunis), Michael Morley (Tooreen), Stephen Broderick (Westport), Barry Lane (Castlebar) and John Duffy (James Stephens) signing up for the inaugural shoot-off. Some guest wild-cards will also be taking part on the evening.
Ballinrobe Racecourse is an ideal test for the long puck, with its one mile circuit in good terrain. Overlooked by the Partry Mountains in the background, the course takes between 18 and 25 shots to complete - depending on weather and abilities. Each GAA club in Mayo is invited to send two representatives to take part in the challenge, with the overall winner and runner-up going forward to represent Mayo at the Connacht GAA Senior Poc Fada on Monday 1st August at the Connacht Centre of Excellence in Bekan.
