The 2013 M. Donnelly GAA All Ireland Poc Fada Finals was officially launched today by GAA Uachtarán, Liam Ó Néill and Uachtarán An Cumann Camogaíochta, Aileen Lawlor in Croke Park.
The finals will take place on Saturday the 3rd of August 2013 on Annaverna Mountain, Ravensdale, Cooley, Co. Louth at 11am where a number of Ireland’s top inter-county goalkeepers including, former Cork All Star Donal Óg Cusack, 2011 All Star Dublin Gary Maguire, 2012 All Star Cork Anthony Nash and Connacht Poc Fada winner Galway James Skehill & 2012 All Ireland Poc Fada champion Tipperary Brendan Cummins will be battling out to become the 2013 Champion.
The unique GAA sporting and cultural contest promises to be a great day of sport. The Provincial Poc Fada Champions James Skehill (Galway), Eoin Reilly (Laois), Stevie Brenner (Waterford) and Sean McBride (Derry) will also participate in this year’s Poc Fada as will the four Provincial Runners Up Patrick McKillion (Tyrone), Andrew Fahey (Clare), Gerry Fallon (Roscommon) and Cillian Kiely (Offaly).
Patricia Jackman of Waterford will be attempting to make history by winning her fifth M Donnelly Camogie Poc Fada title in a row. She however will face strong competition from Catriona Daly (Galway), Deirdre Colfer (Limerick), Martine McMahon (Wexford), Catriona Mc Crickard (Down), Bronagh Mone (Armagh) & Niamh Mackin (Louth).
The M Donnelly Under 16 All Ireland Poc Fada will see Jack Coyne (Galway) Kevin McDonald (Carlow), Adam O Brien (Limerick) & Donal McKernan (Antrim) compete for the prestigious title.
Speaking at the launch GAA Uachtarán, Liam Ó Néill said “There are few events in our diary that stand out from the rest of our activities in the same way as the Poc Fada. The Annaverna Mountain is the perfect picturesque setting for truly unique event and with the contestants including some of the highest profile hurlers in our game who are participating at a time of the year when their season reaches fever pitch, in itself says everything about the importance they place on their involvement. I would also like to thank Martin Donnelly for his continued support of the Competition, this year will be the 17th sponsoring the Finals in the Cooley Mountains. Also to our partners TopFlight whose involvement has raised the profile of the County & Provincial finals.”
Speaking at the launch Uachtarán An Cumann Camogaíochta, Aileen Lawlor said “Camogie are delighted once again to take part in the annual Poc Fada Finals, this will be our
10th year taking part and over the last number of years competition has been quite stiff with only a poc of the sliotar between the contestants,”
